Nocturne for the Breathless

In January 2021, I was invited to collaborate on an artistic project in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the year 2020. Organized by AJ White and Caitlin Lynch, the project brought Detroit poets, composers, and singers together to create a total of 7 "song portraits." I wrote the poem "Nocturne for the Breathless" inspired by conversations with the singer Angelina Mason, which was then beautifully set to music by the composer Logan Hahn. The world premiere of this piece was on March 11th, 2021 and can be viewed on the CameraMusic website. More recently, the song also appears on the CD "Sweet Dreams: Lullabies and Night Songs" performed by soprano Caitlin Lynch and pianist Jean Schneider. Copies of the CD can be found here.

Lesson Plans
While working with InsideOut Literary Arts, I was introduced to the concept of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). After much research on how reading and writing programs might help students build skills related to empathy, I drafted some lesson plans that attempt to use SEL competencies to encourage students to be more aware of their own and others emotions, experiences, and world views. The files below include a lesson plan for elementary age students and one for undergraduate college students.
